About 13km into the Andes Trek

Our hike is starting to get closer to our quarry. The destination inside the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares are the isolated peaks of FItz Roy.

Every few kilometers the terrain can change drastically. Because all the land around here is recently glaciated, the soil is very fresh and full of life. The strange mountain formations make for unpredictable weather patterns and cloud/fog formations across the landscapes. Even better, we are here in the middle of autumn, so many of the leaves are turning.

It's always a welcome relief to take off my pack, set it down, and then wander about for some photos. I grabbed this one along the way to share with you all.

I noticed that the Wikipedia entry for Monte Fitz Roy said, "the weather in the area is exceptionally inclement and treacherous". No shit. Wait until you see the shot I upload tomorrow. It was taken after 16km of walking in a single day after waking up to -7 degrees at 4:30 AM from a tent that contained the heavily scented noxious scents of the one and only Yuri.

The Sun

This sculpture represents the sun in a scale model of the solar system installed along the St Kilda foreshore, Melbourne Australia.

The scale is one-billionth actual size, and on that scale the sun is 139cm in diameter. The earth is 1.28cm diameter and is 150 meters away. Pluto is 1/4 cm across and is 5.9 km distant.

E11 SZR Dubai UAE

In Dubai, E 11 is known as Sheikh Zayed Road (in Arabic: شارع الشيخ زايد). The highway runs parallel to the coastline from Trade Centre Roundabout to the border with the emirate of Abu Dhabi, 55 kilometres (34 mi) away in the area of Jebel Ali.[1]

The road was formerly known as Defence Road.[1] Between 1993 and 1998, 30 kilometres (19 mi) of the road was expanded.[1] Along with this improvement came a change in the name. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai at the time, named the road after the then president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.[2]

The first stretch of the highway between Trade Centre Roundabout and Interchange 2 is home to most of Dubai's skyscrapers, including the Emirates Towers and the Burj Dubai. The highway also connects other new developments such as the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Dubai Waterfront. The road will soon have most of the Red Line of Dubai Metro running alongside it.
